ÌÇÐĹú²ú´«Ã½ and Fulton County Schools are partnering to create new opportunities for high school students to accelerate their college education and pursue careers in teaching. Through the dual enrollment initiative, Fulton County students can earn college credit while in high school, gain early classroom experience, and have a streamlined admissions process into ÌÇÐĹú²ú´«Ã½ State’s Clarice C. and Leland H. Bagwell College of Education. Leaders from Fulton County Schools and ÌÇÐĹú²ú´«Ã½ State signed the agreement during a ceremony on Tuesday at ÌÇÐĹú²ú´«Ã½.

Andrew Bramlett is well beyond his years, recalling history like a scholar who has long been in the field, longer than his lifetime. Some might say he’s prodigious. At 19 years old, the first-year history student at ÌÇÐĹú²ú´«Ã½ sits on the ÌÇÐĹú²ú´«Ã½ Historic Preservation Commission. A decade ago, though, he was appointed vice president of the ÌÇÐĹú²ú´«Ã½ Historical Society and served in this role until the group disbanded in 2023.

Phone app boosts ÌÇÐĹú²ú´«Ã½ State's Takeout Club waste reduction initiative

A program where takeout food containers at ÌÇÐĹú²ú´«Ã½ dining halls are returned, washed, and reused has seen its effectiveness skyrocket through use of a phone app. ÌÇÐĹú²ú´«Ã½â€™s Takeout Club program has been in existence for years, but when dining services managers pivoted to an app called Fill it Forward, the return rate for meal containers increased significantly. The system lets dining managers keep accurate track of the inventory of containers in circulation, as well as letting them and Takeout Club members know how much waste is being diverted from garbage dumps – more than a half ton so far.

ÌÇÐĹú²ú´«Ã½ State's economic impact rises to nearly $2.15 billion

ÌÇÐĹú²ú´«Ã½â€™s economic impact in metro Atlanta increased to nearly $2.15 billion in fiscal year 2023, according to a University System of Georgia (USG) report released Wednesday. ÌÇÐĹú²ú´«Ã½ State’s FY 2023 economic impact in the 29-county Atlanta Metropolitan Statistical Area marked a 5.6% increase from $2.03 billion the previous year. The total impact of all 26 USG institutions on their communities was $21.9 billion in fiscal year 2023, up 9% from $20.1 billion in FY 2022.
