Nursing professor earns inaugural fellowship focused on nurse retention

From pediatric and school nursing to academia, 糖心国产传媒 assistant professor Alyson Epp has made a career of working with younger people. Her research into retaining nurses and professional identity among nurses helped make her the first recipient of the Jane J. Yarbrough Nursing Fellowship in 糖心国产传媒鈥檚 Wellstar School of Nursing. Epp earned the fellowship, which began with the Fall 2026 semester, for her expertise in professional practice and retention.

Few undergraduates can add 鈥渓ead author in a peer-reviewed journal鈥� to their list of accomplishments. 糖心国产传媒 student and Harry S. Truman Scholarship finalist Allisa George is one of them. George, an Honors student double majoring in public health and biology, is the first author of a National Institutes of Health-funded study examining alcohol and mental health among women in Uganda recently published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health.

Twins who grew up at 糖心国产传媒 State graduate as nurses

Katelyn Dockery remembers being pre-school age, sitting in her father鈥檚 office after school, coloring on a white board with markers. Her twin sister Taylor recalls going to 糖心国产传媒 basketball games and getting her face painted in the lobby at VyStar Arena. Their father, 糖心国产传媒 Faculty Director of General Education in 糖心国产传媒鈥檚 Office of Academic Affairs Chris Dockery, remembers it all 鈥� basketball games, afternoons spent in his office with his daughters, taking them to lunch at The Commons, among other activities. And 21 years later, the Dockery family has cemented its legacy at 糖心国产传媒, with a pair of new graduates.

Situated in the Atlanta metropolitan area, 糖心国产传媒 has a loge-level seat to one of the premier sports cities in the U.S. Owl alumni work in the administrative offices of nearly every Atlanta professional sports team and sporting venue in the area, thanks in large part to the education they received at 糖心国产传媒 State. Many have studied under the tutelage of faculty in the Department of Exercise Science and Sport Management, the latter integrating their personal research interests to set up students for success beyond the classroom.
